HEROINES OF KATHMANDU | 2 X 5 mins
2 x short films made in response to British Council Nepal’s ‘Creating Heroines’ brief. Made on location in Kathmandu and Patan, the fIlms explored inter-generational and cross cultural perceptions of women’s work, reflecting upon western and outside influences. In returning to my fatherland in Nepal, I was interested in reconnecting with matriarchal aspects of Newari culture, and celebrating the ‘feminine’ in the ‘workplace’. I was also keen to feature voices spoken in my dad’s mother tongue, Newari, the ethic group indigenous to Kathmandu valley. Films were made with communities, where young women and girls were encouraged to participate. Films were exhibited on location in Kathmandu and as part of WOW festival, Southbank Centre, 2020.
